TIP #1: Avoid Water Loss - Inspect & Correct Vital Components

AVOIDING PROBLEMS

The best way to avoid life disruptions caused by fire, flood, mold, or mal-odor is to take steps now to prevent these situations from arising in the first place. There are many simple steps that can be taken to help ensure your home or business avoids an unexpected casualty or loss. If you haven't already done so, below are just a few helpful tips to consider that might make the difference between avoiding problems or creating and exacerbating them.

TIP #1: AVOIDING WATER LOSS: INSPECT & CORRECT VITAL COMPONENTS OF YOUR PLUMBING SYSTEM

Inspecting and correcting vital components of your plumbing system can make a huge difference in terms of reducing the chances of water loss situation. Most water losses are caused by some type of malfunction or break in water supply systems, drainage systems, and pipes.

For instance, the typical 1,500 square foot home can have anywhere between 15 and 20 shutoff valves in various locations throughout your home. These valves are usually located under your sinks to serve the hot and cold water demands of occupants at the faucet. They can also be located behind your washing machines to serve those hot and cold water demands. You should  check these water shutoff points to ensure they are functioning properly and not leaking water. Valves have moving parts designed to close off the pathway of running fresh water and these moving parts can become rusted and/or corroded causing disintegration, and can even break off completely when turned if not careful.  Also it is important to check connection points, couplings, and other locations where something is screwed or fastened into  something else.
